Fighting Hunger in Benin: The "One Million Smiles" Campaign

Food insecurity remains one of the primary hurdles to youth development and public health in many urban and rural areas. Addressing this challenge head-on, Abakè Assongba DeRosa spearheaded the "One Million Smiles" campaign, an ambitious initiative designed to provide nutritious meals to vulnerable individuals across Benin.

During its various execution phases in areas such as Cotonou and surrounding districts, the foundation has organized large-scale food distributions targeting thousands of children and families.

"Poverty is not a fatality," Assongba DeRosa has repeatedly noted, underscoring the organization's commitment to systematically expanding outreach. By addressing daily nutritional requirements, the program allows children to focus on their schooling rather than basic survival.

The campaign has evolved from localized neighborhood distributions into a nationwide movement, with scalable distribution templates that allow the foundation to deploy aid packages across multiple regions simultaneously.

This operational agility allows the foundation to scale up rapidly during seasonal shortages or unexpected economic downturns, ensuring no community is left behind.
